MAIN DESCRIPTION
Moonlit Nautilus is a large-scale mixed media work built on a solid wood headboard made from an old door, layered with canvas, acrylic paint, and LED lighting. The piece was created as a dream-world environment rather than a standard painting, with multiple canvas sections arranged across the dark wood structure like fragments of a drifting night vision.
The work draws from the idea of Little Nemo and the strange, surreal atmosphere of Slumberland. Soft blues, pale greens, lavender, white, and muted metallic movement spread across the layered canvases, creating the feeling of moonlight moving through sleep, water, memory, and imagination. The nautilus reference comes through in the sense of unfolding chambers and curved dream logic, where one visual space seems to open into another.
The thrown splatter across the surface represents the disruptions that break into each night: restless thoughts, broken sleep, and the little interruptions that scatter across the dream before it can fully settle. The LED lighting adds another layer to the piece, allowing the work to shift from painted object to illuminated dreamscape. Because of its reclaimed wood structure, scale, depth, layered canvas construction, and lighting, Moonlit Nautilus functions as both artwork and built environment.
